Storms River is a scenic, powerful river that winds its way through the Tsitsikamma Mountain Range and into the Indian Ocean.

Tourists visit from all over the world to experience the adventure sports and natural splendor of this South African water feature. It makes its way through the magnificent, verdant forests that characterise this part of the Garden Route. Its banks are flanked by tall indigenous trees and are frequented by the bird life that calls this home. Storms River traverses through the Tsitsikamma National Park, which is one of the oldest marine reserves in the country, as well as one of the biggest. This region is also home to the little village of Storms River, which is a backpacker's delight and a camping hotspot.

But ‘Storms River’ has become something of a synonym for the wild, crashing seas and breathtaking views of Storms River Mouth, and the incredible suspension bridge that serves as a lookout point over stormy seas and precipitous cliffs through which the Storms River tumults into the sea.

There is little written material available that adequately describe the beauty of the surrounds of Storms River. A detour off the road and into the Tsitsikamma National Park to Storms River Mouth is obligatory if you are a visitor to this region. There are a number of short walking trails and it is from here that the Otter Trail’s strenuous five-day hike begins, exploring the deep ravines, gorges and cliff edges of this rugged coast.

Storms River village provides a number of adventure activities like the Canopy tours, bungi jumping from the Bloukrans River Bridge, which claims to the be the world’s highest at 216 metres, biking trails, fishing excursions and Black Water Tubing and kloofing, but the star of the show is nature herself and the meeting place of forest, precipitous cliff and stormy seas.

Located in the magnificent Tsitsikamma indigenous rainforest, many of the platforms are built around giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees that are up to 700 years old! Standing within the crown of these giants and looking down at the lush forest floor thirty metres below is an experience of a lifetime. The scenery and birdlife is spectacular and professional guides ensure your safety while keeping you informed about interesting features of the forest ecology. If you are fortunate enough, you will spot a pair of Knysna Loeries or the brilliant red plumage of the elusive Narina Trogon. Whatever happens, we’re quite sure you’ll be back again!
